More from Emily

When Phil got home from work, Emily presented him with this lovely apology card.

You may have to click on the second image to read the words. Oh, and Emily's signature is cut off because my scanner is just not large enough to accommodate Emily's 9x12 paper.

Must Be Doing Something Right

Last night, Emily was invited to attend a birthday party for a friend of hers from school. The birthday party is this evening. Emily is currently grounded for having throw a temper tantrum and yelling at Phil last weekend. So, Emily was told she couldn't go to the party.

After much begging and pleading and trying to make me feel sorry for the other girl (only one person is going to her party), I told Emily that my answer was final and that if I heard one more word on the subject she would be grounded for another week and would possibly have her own birthday party this weekend canceled. So, Emily went in her room and cried for a while.

Later, Emily came out and gave me a big hug and told me that I was a "good mom." I asked her what made her say that, and she told me that I was a good mom for not letting her go to the party and punishing her for misbehaving. Can you believe that?!

It looks like all of my explanations of why I punish the girls for misbehaving and disobeying have finally sunken in. At least with Emily, anyway. When your kids thank you for punishing them, you know you must be doing something right!

Cast of Characters

Check out my updated Cast of Characters over on my side bar. >>>

So... Whaddya think?

Rock Star Fantasy

Apparently, her delicate eyes are too sensitive for the lights in our living room. Either that, or she's part Gremlin.

Potty Party

Katie was just suddenly unaccounted for, so I sent Sarah on a search of the house for her. She found Katie hanging onto the toilet seat in the girls' bathroom trying not to fall in. Inside the toilet, she found poop. Katie poop, to be exact.

That's right folks, Katie just went to the potty all by herself. I'm so proud of her! Of course, I don't expect this to be a regular occurrence since we aren't even actively potty training her. Heck, she's not even two yet.

Liquidation Sale - Part 2

My liquidation sale is going well so far, considering that I haven't been able to get very many items up on eBay yet. But the ones that are up already, are doing well. I have bids on a few items and many watchers on the others. I expect to receive more bids tomorrow as my auctions near the end.

If you'd like to check out my items, and possibly place a bid or two, you can go here.

Messy Baby

Katie loves her black beans and chicken and yellow rice. I think it's one of her very favorite foods. But, boy, she sure does make a mess of herself with it!

OMG!

This is really freaky! I can only imagine the nightmares I'll have tonight after seeing that.

Dear Ebay Seller

What more do you want from me? I paid you immediately (seriously, the moment the auction ended), and even though I was not 100% happy with what I received, I left you positive feedback. Now you are withholding positive feedback from me because you are "hurt" that I wasn't 100% happy? WTF?!

Maybe you would have preferred to not sell your item? It's not like you had any other bidders, you know. And it's not like I vented about what was wrong with the item when I left your feedback. I sent you the message privately. I simply wanted you to know that in the future, you might want to mention that the doll you are selling is in serious danger of losing her head and limbs in the near future. Some other buyers might not have been as accepting of a flaw like this.

But you just go ahead and feel as "hurt" as you want. Don't worry about me. I won't be losing anymore sleep over your reneging on your end of the feedback bargain.

Little Sneak

Sarah and Emily spent the day yesterday baking in the kitchen. Emily baked blueberry muffins, and Sarah baked chocolate chip cookies. Katie kept going after the muffins and cookies.

We thought we had put the muffins and cookies out of Katie's reach. But Katie is a very resourceful little girl.

Apparently, nothing is out of Katie's reach anymore.

A Start

I have a confession to make. I have lived in my house for more than four years now, and I have no landscaping whatsoever.

When we bought our house, there was a little bit of landscaping, but it was all over grown and ugly, so we ripped it all out with the intention of replacing it with something else. And as the years passed, we either didn't have the time, or we didn't have the money, or we couldn't decide or agree on what to do.

But today, we finally made a start on our long delayed landscaping project. I had one of those Lowe's Project Starter coupons that was good for $10 off of a $50 purchase. So, while we were at Lowe's buying a new blade for our lawn mower, I decided to head out to the garden center to look at the flowers and shrubs.

When we were in Celebration for their Independence Day parade, the Celebration Garden Club actually passed out little potted annuals to the parade goers. We came home with three of them. My intention was to plant them around my mailbox, which I've been wanting to plant around for a while. But with only three of them, I needed a few more. So, at Lowe's today, I bought one more of the white ones that I got at the parade, and four of the pink variety.

After picking out my flowers, I let Phil choose some shrubs to plant in front of our house. We got four little shrubs, but I think we need at least two more to make it all the way across the house. We're planning on planting everything next Saturday so it will all be done before Emily's birthday party on Sunday.

Once we get everything all planted, I'll post some pics for you to see. Just remember, this is a SLOW work in progress. Once we get the shrubs planted, we'll still need to pick out other plants and flowers to plant in front of them.

Ovah!

Okay, so I guess I'm still thinking in Marisa Tomei's My Cousin Vinny voice. Anywho...

The blogging contest that I have been participating in with friends from my mom's group is officially O-V-E-R. Over.

No, I didn't beat everyone else, but I didn't lose either. Karlise and I are both very competitive, and it was looking like this thing could go on forever. Seriously, she blogged just a few hours after giving birth just to keep from losing, so it would take some sort of really serious disaster to knock her out, and I would never wish for anything like that to happen to her. So, we called it a draw. A tie.

We're going to split the winnings, or donate it to charity, or something. Of course, with the economy the way it is right now, I'm sure we could both stand to just pocket our halves and find some other way to be charitable (like donating all of my leftover garage sale stuff).

So, if I miss a day of blogging, don't freak out about me losing! Of course, I have been blogging at least once a day now, since before New Year's Day, so it's become quite the habit, and you'll probably still be hearing from me quite often. But on the days that I don't have anything fun or interesting to say, you won't have to suffer through a boring blog post that I had to do just to do it.

And make sure you go visit Karlise's blog and congratulate her on hanging in there with me for all these months.

Have You Seen This?

I actually went to bed early last night. Eight-thirty, to be exact. Of course, when I got to bed, Phil was in there watching My Cousin Vinny, so I ended up staying awake until 10:30 watching it with him.

While we were watching the movie, we saw this commercial for a new sleep aid for women - Sleep Pretty in Pink. We couldn't help but laugh at it. (You can view the commercial if you click on the link and then click on the TV.)

We laughed even harder when it got near the end and showed a woman sleeping peacefully with her bright pink ear plugs in. Apparently, the reason we women aren't sleeping well is because our husbands snore.

I think I'll stick to my prescription, FDA-approved sleep aids, thank you.

Steve Rocks

Right now, we're watching Blues Clues with Katie. It's one of the old ones with Steve. Those are the only ones I can really enjoy. I can barely stand the newer ones with Joe. That guy's just annoying. Joe seems to be overacting most of the time. And Steve's green striped shirt is WAY cooler than anything Joe ever wears.

Frog!

I took Sarah and Emily to the dentist this morning. Sarah was due for her monthly orthodontic check-up, and Emily had a cavity that needed to be filled. This was Emily's first cavity on a permanent tooth, and I was not very happy about it. She didn't have too hard of a time, but she certainly disliked it enough to never want to get a cavity ever again. Hopefully, she'll remember this experience and do a better job brushing and flossing her teeth from now on.

When we were finished at the dentist, we went to get in the car to go have some lunch. The girls got to the car first, and before I could even get to the car, Sarah screamed, "FROG!" and jumped away from the car. This is what she saw.

Of course, we all panicked trying to figure out how to get rid of the frog. We didn't want to kill it, but we didn't want him to touch any of us either. Sarah decided to use a pair of sunglasses to try to nudge him out of the door. It worked, however when he jumped away, he jumped into the front floor of the car, and then went under the seat.

There was no way in hell I was about to drive off with a frog that close to my feet, not to mention my daughters. So, I had the girls keep working on trying to get him out of my car. (Yes, I'm too chicken to take care of it myself.) They eventually got him back out of the inside of the car, but then he was in the front door where if I closed it, he would get squashed.

Since I did not want a squished frog on my car door, the girls kept at trying to move him. They eventually got him to move somewhere that we couldn't find him, but we knew he was no longer inside the car and he wasn't going to get squished by me shutting the door. So, they quickly shut the door to keep him from getting back in the way or into the car, and I entered the car from the passenger side door.

We did eventually make it to lunch, and haven't seen the frog since. I hope we never do see him again.

Edited to Add: I should probably mention that this was not one of those little frogs either. He was at least three to four inches long and really fat!

Liquidation Sale

Everything must go! That's right, everything. Well, everything that's worth anything and we don't absolutely need.

Since the deadbeat ex would much rather make payments to an attorney than to support his children, I've got to find a way to pay the bills around here. So, I'm going to have to sell anything and everything that I can to keep food on the table for my family.

I just posted my Stone Temple Pilots concert tickets for sale on Stub Hub. Tomorrow, I'll begin posting shoes and clothing for sale on eBay. Wish me luck.

Speaking of Daddies

I found this photo on my camera. You've got to love a man who loves his daughters enough to do this.

Phil's such a good sport, isn't he?

Oh, and those of you who work with Phil, please don't give him too hard of a time about this post.

Bad Daddy?

I just read this article about Brad Pitt being caught driving a golf cart with his daughter Shiloh sitting on his lap. While Pitt was wearing a seat belt, Shiloh was not and was also not wearing a helmet.

This is not the first time that Brad Pitt has been photographed traveling with one of his children not properly secured. You may recall that a couple of years ago, Pitt was photographed riding a bicycle with a helmetless Maddox in a child seat on the rear of the bike. Definitely NOT safe.

That being said though, I don't believe that the "golf cart incident" is all that bad. Sure, it's not safe at all. The safest way for Shiloh to be traveling would be in a car seat strapped into one of the seats (which obviously have seat belts). However, they are not riding on a busy street - it's a dirt road without much, if any, traffic. And, having Shiloh riding on his lap is really no different than when we have our babies sitting on our laps when we ride those trams that take us from the parking lots to the entrance of theme parks.

So, this incident doesn't bother me nearly as much as the "bicycle/no helmet" incident did.

Insomnia

She's a bitch, isn't she? I haven't been able to fall asleep until at least 2:30 am any night this week. I was determined to go to bed at a decent hour tonight, but here I am, still WIDE awake.

No matter what, I'm going to bed by 1:00, 1:30 at the latest. Whether I'm tired or not. Promise.

Deadliest Catch

Tonight is the season finale of Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel. Over the past couple of months, I have become a HUGE fan of this show. Phil loves that I love this show. It's something that we can watch together and both enjoy.

The finale is on tonight at 9:00 pm (EST). Right now, they are running a marathon of this season's shows until the finale comes on. So, of course, I'm watching. ...Even though I've already seen these episodes.

I think I may have to buy it on DVD when it comes out. And I can pretend it's a gift for Phil.

Kicked Out

Last night (actually early this morning), when I went to go get in bed, I found Phil and Katie sprawled out on the bed, with no room left for me. So, I grabbed my pillows to go sleep on the couch. When I did that, Katie rolled over and cozied up to Phil, leaving plenty of room for me.

So, I placed my pillows back on the bed so I could climb in to go to sleep. But, as soon as I laid my pillows down, Katie rolled back over onto one of my pillows. Not only did she bogart my pillow and my space in the bed, but as she was doing so, she said in the sweetest little voice, "Thank you, Mommy." As if I meant to give her my pillow!

I couldn't help but laugh as I headed out to the couch to sleep.

BTW: I slept terribly last night. That little brat is not going to keep me out of my bed again tonight. She needs to learn to sleep in her own bed all night.

Electricity

It's out around these parts right now. I laid down with Katie to get her to take a nap, and I woke up around five. When I got out of bed at 5:30, I went to the computer to check my email. As soon as I sat down, the power went out.

Phil had just started to boil water to make spaghetti for dinner, too. Luckily, I reminded him that we have burners on our gas grill, so he was still able to cook us dinner.

And thankfully, Phil has a Sprint card for his laptop, so I was still able to access my beloved internet.

Fishy Feet

I just read this article. Sounds like fun, but around these parts, all we have to do is wade into the nearest lake for the same effect.

Editted to Add: We saw this same story on the news this evening. When Katie saw the fish nibbling at the ladies' feet, she said, "Eww! Yucky!" LOL!

Please Take a Moment

to view this little slide show.

Then be sure to do your part!

(I have the Jack Johnson song "reduce, reuse, recycle..." running through my head now.)

Two Hundred Eighteen

That's how many lipsticks I found in my bathroom. That number does not include any lipsticks I may have in my purse, either.

Oh, and I found two more brand new bottles of fingernail polish today.

Polish

I started working on a "deep cleaning" of my house Saturday morning. It's basically a major "purge" project that I've been needing to do for a while now. I'm going through my house room by room, drawer by drawer, storage container by storage container, and getting rid of everything that we don't need.

I decided to start with my bathroom Saturday morning. It may be a small room, but it's definitely the most cluttered. Over the years, I've accumulated quite the make-up collection. I used to sell Avon, so some of it is from back then, and I've also been quite the Clinique fan.

What has amazed me the most, though, is the sheer amount of fingernail polish that I found. Would you believe that I found no less than 80 bottles of fingernail polish?!

The crazy thing here is that I rarely wear fingernail polish. Sure, I'll wear nail polish on my toenails whenever I get a pedicure, but my fingernails are almost always bare.

I went through all of the bottles and there are a few that will need to be thrown out. Otherwise, I'm going to let Sarah and Emily go through and pick a couple out for themselves, and the rest will be going away forever.

Stay tuned to find out how many lipsticks and lip glosses I find...

Showing Off

I ordered Katie's birthday party invitations yesterday. (I know, way to wait until the last minute.) Since I like to order those cute (and expensive) personalized photo invitations from Shutterfly, I decided to take a new photo of Katie to use on the invitation.

So, I put some cute little clips in Katie's hair and had her pose for some photos. It took me several tries, but I managed to get one that was perfect for the invitation. Check it out below.

Isn't my baby beautiful?

Perfect Pear

A funny thing happened to me this afternoon while I was at Wendy's. As I was approaching my table, the man at the next table asked me if I would mind showing his two young daughters the shape of my body. He said that he had been teaching them about different body types and he'd like them to see a perfect example of a pear-shaped body.

Of course, I didn't think twice about showing of my "perfect pear" and telling his daughters all about how it's a very good thing to have a pear shape, because we have good cholesterol levels and don't have to worry about heart disease as much as other people do, especially the "apples."

I know other people may have been offended or weirded out if they had been asked the same thing, but I am comfortable in my body, and I'm very proud of my "perfect pear." Even if it is a bitch to find pants that fit right.

More Hair Happenings

You know how Sarah's been bugging me to let her dye her hair some unnatural color ever since her friend Jordan dyed her hair purple? Well...

I still won't let her do it. But, I did let her buy some clip-in colored hair pieces to wear in her hair. That's about as far as I'm willing to budge on this issue.

And look, Sarah was even nice enough to share one of her new hair pieces with Emily today.

And while the straight pink streak doesn't exactly blend well with Emily's curly hair, it does at least match her shirt.

Why?

Well, it looks like we've entered the "Why?" stage. It officially began this morning. That's not to say that Katie hasn't asked, "Why?" before today; she was just always content with whatever answer she was given.

But all of that ended this morning. This morning, on not just one occasion, but several, Katie wasn't content with the answer she got when she asked, "Why?" So, she kept on asking, "Why?" over and over and over again. Luckily, she's not into the that extremely annoying "Why?" stage where it goes on for hours yet. But she did get up to four times in a row.

And I thought this stage didn't come until around age three. This kid's not even two yet. Oy!

Hair Happenings

Katie has been in desperate need of getting her bangs trimmed for some time now. Her bangs were practically in her eyes on the fourth of July.

Over the weekend, I was able to get almost all of her bangs into a clip on one side of her face. If she didn't immediately pull everything that I put in her hair out, I might have considered just going ahead and letting her bangs grow out.

But, since Katie's not ready to keep things in her hair yet, we decided a trim was definitely in order. My mother was getting her hair colored last night, and while the dye was working its magic, her hair stylist trimmed Katie's bangs for us.

Now I can see my beautiful daughter's face again!

Mermaid

I had to take my mother to an appointment today. And since she had to drive down here from Ocala this morning, she had my step-dad's Escalade, which I got to drive around all day.

The Escalade has a built-in DVD player in it, so of course, the girls had to bring a DVD for Katie to watch. Katie's favorite movies are The Little Mermaid and The Little Mermaid II. I think they brought The Little Mermaid II, because I'm pretty sure I heard Katie say, "Bye-bye, Melody," when we got out of the truck one time.

Anyhow, Katie loved watching the DVD in the car, and she loved wearing the headphones that go with it, too. Because they kept sliding forward on her face, her little cheeks were getting all squished in making her look all chubby. And of course, I just had to snap a photo of her looking so adorable.

Before you ask, Andrea, no, I was not driving when I took this photo. We had pulled into a parking space when I took it.

After the Rain

Comes the beauty.

When these pretty lavender* flowers first popped up in my yard a few weeks ago, I just assumed they were weeds. I thought, how could anything of any beauty grow in my yard unless it's a weed?

But then my aunt told me that they were not weeds, that they were in fact Rain Lillies. They only sprout up and bloom when it rains a lot. Pretty cool, huh?

*Apparently, my Rain Lillies are of the white variety. They just have a lavender hue to them.

Hating Hannah

Some of you may recall how horrified I was a while back when I heard Katie singing along with the Hannah Montana theme song. Well, now it's even worse!

Someone (I know who, but I'm protecting his anonymity here) brought a birthday card for Sarah to her party yesterday. But not just any birthday card - a musical birthday card. And not just any musical card, but one with this face on the front of it.

And guess who can't get enough of the card and song? Yep! Katie keeps opening up the card so she can sing along. I think I've heard the little clip of "Best of Both Worlds" about 2 gazillion times now. Someone please tell me what I did that was so wrong to deserve this torture.

Did You Know?

Did you know that you can put your Christmas ornaments on lay-away at Hallmark? I didn't know it until yesterday. This past weekend was the big Ornament Premier at Hallmark stores. Since I'm in such a Christmasy* mood right now, of course I attended.

I usually purchase several ornaments for our family Christmas tree every year. But since I can never afford to buy them all at the same time, and don't want to put them on credit, I usually pick up a couple here and a few there. When I mentioned this to the sales lady, she told me about the lay-away program. So, I loaded up my bag, and put all but one ornament on layaway.

I was also able to order the ornaments that I want that aren't being released until October and November. Now, when they come in, my ornaments will be set aside for me before the shelves get stocked.

Shopping for Christmas ornaments this year was almost too easy!

*Yes, that is a made up word. You got a problem with that?

Rained Out

We had a little birthday party for Sarah this afternoon. It was supposed to be a fun, outdoor water-play party. Unfortunately, it started raining shortly before the party was to begin. Luckily, there weren't too many guests here, so we were able to move the party indoors and not have it be too crowded.

Christmas in July

I've never been one of those people to celebrate "Christmas in July." Those who know me well, know how much I HATE hearing Christmas carols or seeing Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving. But this year is different for me. This year, I have a reason to celebrate and start looking forward to Christmas.

This is the reason behind my change of heart.

This is my new Madame Alexander Heavenly Star treetopper. Isn't she beautiful? Look at that perfect, angelic face. How could anyone resist her?

I am a HUGE fan of the Madame Alexander dolls. I started my collection when I was a little girl, and I am still in love with these beautiful dolls. And I have wanted one of these Christmas treetoppers for several years now. I had considered purchasing one on eBay a few times, but they are so expensive, even the used ones, that I could never justify spending so much money on something for myself while I was supposed to be spending my Christmas money on gifts for the children.

But this year, it was just meant to be. I just happened to walk into a toy shop that just happened to have two different treetoppers in stock when I just happened to have a few extra dollars in my bank account. But even all of those coincidences weren't enough to make me grab my opportunity. No, it was the 20% off coupons that were being handed out during the Independence Day parade that sealed the deal. How could I resist such an awesome find at such an awesome price? I couldn't.

So, now that I have what my heart has been desiring for so long, I just can't wait for Christmastime to get here so I can place her in her place of honor at the top of my Christmas tree. Sorry, cheap Walmart angel, your services will no longer be required here.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Check out the new look of my blog! Isn't she pretty?

I know this may be a bit shocking for those of you who know me well and know that I HATE change, but I've been thinking about doing this for a while now, and I finally got the nerve to try it.

So, what do you think?

Fun with Friends

Today, my friend, Andrea, invited our moms group over to her house for a cookout and swimming playdate. The girls and I all had a good time with our friends.

Of course, Katie, my little fish, had a blast in the pool, and she wasn't very happy when we had to leave. If that girl could be in the pool all day every day, she'd be perfectly happy.

Sharks Underwater Grill

When we went to Sea World last week, we decided to eat lunch at the Sharks Underwater Grill. We usually eat lunch at the Sea Fire Grill, but they don't have their dueling pianos show anymore, so we decided to try something new.

It was a very unique experience, to say the least. I've eaten in restaurants that had large fish tanks, but never anything like this.

This next shark we nicknamed "Bucky" as he was in desperate need of major orthodontics.

The sharks and other fish were a nice distraction for Katie while we waited for our food.

The food was unique, as well. Our entrees were quite the works of art.

No, the filet mignon does not normally come with a side of french fries. I just didn't see any other sides available that I would eat, so I ordered it that way. And considering that my steak was overcooked, it still tasted pretty good.

After we finished eating, we went outside to see some more sharks (and rays).

While outside, we decided to give the sharks a little bit to eat, too. Look at that yummy squid! (Ewww!)

And the feeding frenzy begins!

Dining at the Sharks Underwater Grill was definitely an experience. But, considering how expensive the food was, I doubt we'll feel the need to have that experience again any time soon.

Teenager

It's official. I cannot deny it. I am now the mother of a (gulp) TEENAGER.

How did this happen? Where did the time go? I swear it wasn't that long ago that I brought her home from the hospital and wondered how I got so lucky to have such a beautiful daughter. And now she's already a teenager? Calgon, take me away!

(Happy thirteenth birthday, Sarah! I love you!)
