A Day at Busch Gardens

Since our zoo passes expired a few months ago, and we have been so strapped for cash due to a certain deadbeat dad that we couldn't afford to renew them, Katie has been a bit starved for some up close animal time. So, when Sarah and Emily went to spend the day with their grandparents, Phil and I decided to take Katie to see the animals at Busch Gardens.

We saw the oh-so-cute meerkats,

the giraffes and zebras,

and the lemurs.

In the animal nursery, we saw lots of birds and reptiles. Katie was quite fascinated by the flamingos.

Upon exiting the animal nursery, we encountered the tortoise habitat. While a couple of tortoises were "going wild", Katie got a good look at some other tortoises.

Most of the elephants were being unfriendly and had their backs (or butts as it seemed) turned to us, but this guy seemed to be having a good time with the crowd. He actually looks like he's smiling!

When we finally made it to Jungala, we spent quite a bit of time with my favorite animals, the tigers.

This tiger was very interested in Katie. Katie was thrilled to be up so close to the big kitty. All of the other people around us thought it was pretty neat, too, and took lots of photos of Katie with the tiger.

When we finally exited the tiger habitat, we encountered a Jungala street show. I can't remember what all of the characters were supposed to be, but the brown one was a walking stick bug, and the green one was a tree frog.

Katie really enjoyed the show (she loves anything with music), but she wasn't exactly thrilled with this.

While taking a much needed rest, I stepped out from behind the camera so that Phil could take a photo of my baby girl and me.

And since she was being so cute, I had to snap a few more pics of Katie before we moved on.

Of course, we had to make one last stop before exiting the park.

What better way is there to end a hot and sweaty day at Busch Gardens, than with ice cream covered in strawberries? Mmmmm....

Even though Katie missed her nap, she was still in good spirits as we left the park to go home.

Of course, she crashed within ten minutes of being in the car. LOL!

Phil and I had a great time, too. Of course, today, I am paying for all of the walking I did in shoes that were not designed for walking. Maybe I'll get a decent pair of walking shoes one of these days.

Can you believe we have NOT even been to Jungala yet? We really have to go some time! Looks like a great day & wow, how rare that a Mom gets to BE in the picture! Matthew needed a family picture to take to school this week & I have to say the only one I could find was our Christmas photo from last year (which was actually taken in October!). I am rarely in pictures! You look great!

This was our first time visiting Jungala. I was so excited when it opened - I can't believe it took me this long to get there!
