Accent?

I came across this little quiz today. I totally didn't expect these results, especially since I've never even been anywhere near Chicago or Wisconsin. I would have pegged myself as more Midland.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

The Midland

The Northeast

Philadelphia

The South

The West

Boston

I think that quiz is incorrect. The quiz said my accent is Southern which I'm ok with but it showed very little in Northeast. I think I definitely have a Baltimore accent. JMO

It's right on the mark for me.

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.

Wow, mine was right on:

You definitely have a Boston accent, even if you think you don't. Of course, that doesn't mean you are from the Boston area, you may also be from New Hampshire or Maine.

I don't think I sound like I have an accent, but I know i say a few words differently.

Karen - you definitely have a Baltimore accent!

Mine was right on. Raised in FL, by parents from Ohio.

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Me, too, Holly! I was born and raised here, but my parents were both born in Cincinnati, Ohio. I also had a lot of neighbors when I was a child who were from Ohio, too.
