Green?
I just returned from a trip to Publix to pick up some groceries. While standing in the checkout line, I noticed that the little old lady ahead of me was purchasing several Publix Greenwise products. What struck me as odd, however, was the fact that she was using plastic bags instead of Green bags. So she's saving some trees by purchasing recycled paper products, but wasting petroleum by using the plastic bags. Somehow, this makes no sense to me.

I think you have a good amount of elderly people that do not understand or agree with everything in regards to the environment, etc. I remember my MIL saying to me once about my grandmother (when she was still alive) its near impossible to change her thinking...At a certain age, people are set in the way they view things....Now if an elderly person is still working or in a very social way, they might think different because of conversations others might have or just their knowledge of the way things are now are brought up a level....But I've noticed the same thing in stores recently...
I buy many greenwise products and still use plastic. BUT I do recycle the bags.
I buy green products but still use plastic, which I ALWAYS reuse (I always put my clothes in plastic before I box them for ebay, I use them for stuff for freecycle, I bring them to the park for collecting acorns, etc.). Plus, every little bit helps. I commend her for at least buying green SOMETHING. I'm not sure my grandparents even know what the term means! LOL.
I buy some greenwise products but use plastic bags also. For us, the greenwise food products are safer than non-organic food but cheaper than organic food. I've been wanting to buy some Green bags but I know Don wouldn't like me spending the extra money right now. However, we do re-use the plastic bags in our house also.
Well, back when I used to use plastic bags, I always reused and recycled them, too, but I feel much better about using the Green bags. If nobody used the plastic bags, they wouldn't need to make so many in the first place. AND, I never reused as many plastic bags as I would bring home from shopping. Even though I have been using my Green bags for a couple of months now (maybe longer), I STILL have tons of leftover plastic bags waiting to be reused.
Karen - You could always purchase one Green bag at a time. At only $1.00 per bag, it won't really bite into your budget as much that way. I certainly didn't buy all of my Green bags at once.
