Uh-Oh

This may be much harder than I thought it would be. Back before Katie got so sick, we were making good progress toward weening her from her pacifier. But when she was so sick and hard to comfort, we let her have her pacifier more often because she was so miserable. Ever since then, she's been very possessive about it.

This morning, we went to take Sarah to her orchestra camp, and Katie accidentally left her pacifier at home. So, for most of the car ride there and back, she was yelling for her pacifier. I kept telling her that she left it at home and that she couldn't have it until we got back.

Katie has a habit of stating who is home when we pull into the driveway. Like if she sees Phil's truck parked in the driveway, she'll yell, "Daddy's home!" Well, this morning when we pulled into the driveway, she yelled, "Pacifier's home!"

Then, when we went inside and she was able to locate her pacifier, she actually gave it a huge hug and cradled it like a baby for a few seconds before she put it into her mouth. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw her do that. It was so cute, yet so discouraging, all at the same time.

Yep. Breaking Katie's pacifier habit is definitely going to be harder than I thought.

Good luck with that, lol. Of course I was too young to remember but my mom told me I had a hard time giving up my pacifier. I'm not sure how old I was, but my mom talked me into giving it to Santa.

Well, if it makes you feel better Tyler STILL has his pacifier (only at night). Okay, it probably doesn't make you feel better...just makes you think I'm nuts. LOL!

Karen,
That's a great idea! Emily was about 2.5 when she gave hers up and the way it happened was that a stranger in the airport told her that she was too big for a pacifier and told her to give it to him. And she did. After that, whenever she asked for her pacifier, we just reminded her that she had given it to that man, and she's say, "Oh," and forget all about her pacifier.
If we have Katie leave her pacifier out for Santa (or maybe the birthday fairy?) it'll work out the same way.

Good Luck...I didn't have to deal with the pacifier issue, but breaking our kids from any habit is not an easy task...LOL!

We are going to have to get Grace's pacifier away from her soon. I decided to focus on the potty training first before we take something else away. She's a little attached to diapers. So far she uses the pacifier at night, but every now and then she'll find a long lost pacifier under the sofa and it's a fight getting it from her. Good luck with your venture.

Logan had his at nap and bedtime until well after 2yrs. Only at nap and bedtime though and only in his bed. We started cutting the tip off it it and told him it was broken and while he wasn't okay with it, it did make it easier to get rid of. It didn't work for him anymore.
